Can’t login to OpenFire admin

14 09 2009

I have had this issue a number of times, and each time I give up and the next day it magically worked all of a sudden. Silly me :D

I just installed OpenFire on a Windows XP machine - I completed the web installer and then was directed to the login page.

At this point, you will not be able to log in until restarting the OpenFire Server….so pop open the Openfire Status Window (or what ever you call is) and click “stop” and then “start”. After the server finishes getting started, switch back to your web interface / login and try it again.

So for me, this is why it was working after I gave up on it :D

I hope this saves someone an hour of head ache!

Rank High On Search Engines Like Google, Yahoo or MSN With WordPress MU

3 09 2009

Wordpress is the first website that I have received many great results for many different topics all from one website with little real work. The truth is that most of my websites don’t receive too much traffic. There are only so many way to get people to a website:

1) Have such a great website that people talk about it

2) You tell people about the website your self

3) Search Engine Results

4) Advertisement

Of these methods, #1 and # 3 are the most sought after and the easiest. #1 seams easy enough but it probably never gonna happen the way we imagine it would. That only really leaves us with option #3 - Search Engine Results. So how do we do it? I have never understood this concept myself because I am a programmer - not a search engine “Optimizer”. So after playing with Wordpress and deciding to just take it easy and write I started to get a better grasp of the concept.

Step 1) Choose a topic to write about.

Step 2) Think of words or phrases that other people may type into a search engine (word for word, letter for letter).

Step 3) Start writing your article, and focus it on these search terms. You should try to include these terms in every section of your page: The head / title of your document, heading tags (h1-h6), in the content / body of the document, in keyword lists, URL, or anything else of the sort.

Keep the content on the page useful and relevant….do try too hard, just have fun writing but keep these keywords in mind. When you are done use a “keyword density tool” and check your keywords. Keep them between 7%-10%.

I started finding that I am ranking for terms related to the topic I was posting about - Generating traffic from the Google Search engine.

I suggest starting with a wordpress blog, it really helps you feel how a search engine responds to your posts. I have a tool I wrote, located in the scripts section of the site (http://scripts.iluvjohn.com/) that is designed for Wordpress sites. It will search google for your blog post titles and tell you how you are ranking for them.

The Ghost Bay

3 09 2009

Recently I started a project know as TheGhostBay.Org.

Out Goals are not only to run a successful website but to develop new technology, FREE technology. On of the first ideas was to create torrent files that did not need a tracker only to find out that it already exists! The next step to this phase, if at all possible, is to pass indexing information through the clients as well creating a 100% self sustained network that can not be destroyed, can be updated, and managed by the users themselves.

As of right now there are over 80 people on the mailing list. The Pirate Bay has deleted my account on their website, and has block any comment with “TheGhostBay.Org” in it. But we aren’t without a paddle!

We are currently in the process of recreating TPB website. We have approximately 837,000 torrent files or so ripped from TPB. Last year I took a 2 day shot at it and came out with about 60,000 torrent files from TPB myself. So this is where we are at. We are also going to set up forums, a blog and possibly our own Instant Messenger.

Right now, there is a lot of waiting for the large amount of torrents to be processed into usable formats, etc. I bought two 1 TB drives for testing and back ups, etc and a few other pieces of equipment for moving this project along a little faster.
